Working with Local Government

BREW Centre for Local Authorities

The BREW Centre for Local Authorities is a consortium project between the National Industrial Symbiosis Programme, the Local Government Association and Oxfordshire County Council and is funded by DEFRA. The Centre is supported by a steering group of other Business Resource Efficiency organisations such as WRAP, Envirowise and the Carbon Trust.

The main aim of the project is to be a central support service for local authorities by:

  • Developing a network of local authority officers, from waste management, economic development, planning and policy fields, who are engaging with their local business communities.

  • Collecting and disseminating best practice on how to support businesses in becoming resource efficient

  • Supporting trailblazing local authorities to deliver projects that help achieve increased profits for businesses through waste minimisation and more efficient use of resources.

  • Organising events to help educate network members on the issues surrounding improved business resource efficiency
